Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck; September 26 1926 - October 18 20th, 2000) was an American actress and singer with a career that spanned over 40 years. London was a torch performer famous for her smooth, melodic vocals and her languid contralto voice she recorded over thirty albums of standards and jazz between 1955-1969. Her debut album "Cry Me a River" which she recorded and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her part in the role of Dixie McCall, a nurse in the show Emergency! London was born in Santa Rosa, California to vaudevillian parents. She began her acting career in Los Angeles as an actress. London's 35-year acting career began in film in 1944, which included roles for female leads in many westerns. She co-starred with Rock Hudson in The Fat Man (1951) along with Robert Taylor and John Cassavetes in Saddle the Wind (1958) and with Gary Cooper in Man of the West (1958) and with Robert Mitchum in The Wonderful Country (1959). In the late 1950s, she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records, marking the beginning of her professional music career. The album she recorded her final studio album released in 1969. She continued her success in the role of the female main character in the role of Dixie McCall on the television series Emergency! (1972-1979), she starred alongside her husband Bobby Troup. Jack Webb, her ex-husband, produced the show.
